A Long Awaited Movie Review

It has been ages since my last movie review.... So please forgive me if you have already seen these movies long gone from the "big screen".

DESPICABLE ME

It was a really lousy day - typical Dunedin winter weather - so Ben and I decided to go to the movies. I had been really wanting to see this movie (all because of the scene with the little girl "It's SOOO fluffy!!!"). So I dragged Ben into the theatre full of kids (not that he was reluctant to begin with) and we watched it. It was full of "awwww" moments and a few funny ones as well, but at the end the movie made me feel like I was too old for kids movies (being a kid at heart; I hated feeling like that). I came to the conclusion that this movie was good, but not THAT good. It was SUPER cute but didn't really appeal to my sense of humour. Unfortunately Ben had the same feeling as well and he walked out totally unimpressed with my movie decision.... Oh well hehe.

AVATAR - THE LAST AIRBENDER

So some of you might remember watching the cartoon series on Nickelodeon as a kid... If not then you might not understand entirely what this movie is about just by reading my blog. THE STORYLINE: This movie was set years ago. It's based upon a boy (thousands of years old) named Aang who is the Avatar (someone who can control all the elements - earth, air, fire & water). Years before the time where the movie is set, Aang went missing and left the world to turn to chaos. Years later when he comes back the Fire Nation are trying to pretty much take over the world and Aang has to stop them and put "balance" back into the world. Unfortunately Aang has only mastered the element of Air and needs learn the other elements before taking on the "fire lord". So with the help of Katara & Sokka he begins his journey to do so.
Unfortunately this movie is only the beginning. The cartoon series are broken up into a series of "books". This movie (I think) is only the first one. So when I went to this movie with my friends Jack & Leon, I got really into it because it was long beforehand that I had seen all the episodes with Stacey. I knew all the characters and roughly what was going to happen. The only frustrating thing was that their names were pronounced differently AND if finished before I was ready for it!!! All in all... it was a good movie =D 3 stars from me maybe...

THE EXPENDABLES

THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING!!!! - that is all -
No, seriously... This movie met all my expectations. It was full of Hollywood Legends - Sylvester Stallone (who also co-wrote the movie), Jason Statham, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis PLUS MORE - and plenty of action!!! The storyline was good and the guys still know how to please an audience =D
Definitely a MUST see movie for any action lover or admirer of the old boys!

THE A-TEAM

This movie was FUNNY!!!! I will be completely honest, when this movie was first advertised to be released, I had no idea that Mr. T came from the A-Team and I wasn't too fussed if I didn't get to see this movie. I never went to the movies to see it though. I ended up watching it at a friends place (totally legal of course). In my opinion this movie would've been good in the cinemas. I thought of it as an action packed comedy!!! It had great actors and made me laugh so much. And the plot... was good. The ending of the movie was a bit different but during the break down (when they were getting the bad guy) I was really pulled in. The way it was all thought out was pretty cool. Four Stars =D

Movie Mania!!!

Well it has been a while since my last (and only) movie blog.
So here's the not so mega list of movies I have seen since then...

The Most Recent Of them...
ECLIPSE (the Twilight Saga)

I LOVED this movie!!!! More than the first two infact...When I saw Twilight for the first time, I hadn't read the books yet, and I hated it...I thought it was so silly how they could hate eachother then fall in love...I decided that because I clearly didn't understand the movie as much as the other "Twi-Hards" I should read the books....and OMGOSH did I fall in love!!!! I read all 4 books before New Moon (the second movie) was released. When New Moon came out, I was determined to watch it the day it was released (which just so happened to be the day of my NCEA Level 2 English Exam). I rushed through that exam to only be slightly bored and disappointed. So both movies failed to give me a good first impression...so I didn't know what to expect in Eclipse...But I was blown away!!!! It was action packed, full of creepy thrilling bits, cute, funny, sad...it was just EVERYTHING!

Movie number 2 - Shrek Forever After

This movie was actually pretty good for a kids movie...and also considering it is the 4th sequal!!! The 1st Shrek was good, the second was "meh" and the third...thumbs down. But this was farely good....oh and I forgot to mention...it was in 3D so that added to the excitement.

Next....The Prince Of Persia

Ben and I went and saw this together, and he went in with a fair idea of what was going to happen in the movie due to the fact that it is a video game of some sort (I did not know this!). I went in thinking that since it was made by the same people who made 'Pirates of the carribean' ; it would be a good movie.
I thought this movie was good...but not good enough to see twice. It had its moments...but it didn't really tickle my fancy...Oh well.

Last but not least... The Blind Side

Ok, confession... I didn't go to the movie's to watch this...I went to Stacey's (Ben's older sister) to see it with Ben, her and her flatmate Tereinamu. This movie is a definite tear-jerker. It was so sad and is based on a true story. It's not like all those other movies out there about American Footy...It has so much more heart involved in it. And Sandra Bullock did a great job playing the main role in this movie...As for the BIG guy...You just wanna hug him and never let go!!!!

Movies...

Movies i saw in DUNEDIN!!!

This movie was great. I was having a down day so my dear friend Hamish decided to shout me to a chick flick (good idea on his behalf). It's definitely a good laugh and I loved it... I recommend it to any comedy/semi-romantic type of girl =]

I saw this in 3D with my flat mate Stacey. It was pretty cool. We kinda expected it to be really weird and maybe a little scary (being directed by Tim Burton and all), but went in with a bunch of little 8 year olds. It was weird...well unusual for Alice in Wonderland, but a good movie. 3D made it so amazing!! Everyone was "wow-ing" and gasping at everything that was thrown at us. I can't really imagine it being a good movie without 3D now...the 3D was the only thing we left the cinema talking about honestly.

OMGosh...this movie gave me the creepers!!! Hamish decided we should see it...so we did...and i don't regret it because it wasn't really that bad (me being the supernatural freak that I am). If you didn't read the title..it pretty much says it all... this is based on WEREWOLVES!!! not like New Moon style werewolves either. The frights weren't bad though, they were more like somebody-walking-around-the-corner-and-spooking-you-a-little-kinda-frights. I think if you were going to watch this (girls I mean)...have your blanket handy to hide under... It can get a little gross.

Aafter watching Wolfman, Hamish and I went straight into another theatre to watch Percy Jackson and the Lightening Theif. This movie was based on a teenage boy who turned out to be the son of a Roman God and was framed to look like he stole Zeus' lightening. as you may have guessed by now... It's a PG film. Suitable for pretty much anybody. No violence or R rated scenes but a good story line in the end. I liked it =]

Like most people in New Zealand, I went to see Avatar. My boyfriend Ben and I went together, he liked it, and hadn't bothered to tell me he had already seen the movie. I liked this movie, but I left a little disappointed. Everyone had hyped it up to be this AMAZING movie...and sure it was good..but not as good as everyone made it sound... But I would most likely go see it again =]
